Artist Siuman Lo’s works often feature imagery that at first glance seems colorful and inviting, but subsequently unsettles with its subtle grotesqueness. Her works on show this time, the colored pencil drawings “Come Play with Us, Donald” and “Come Play with Us, Winnie,” feature bold-stroked figures that recall recognizable cartoon characters and familiar childhood imagery, only with subtly perverse undertones that come through details such as a gun and a middle finger.

Viewers are thereby invited to reflect on whether the visual imagery that bombards us daily and seems innocent and benign is in fact really so.
